There are so many healthy snacks for kids on the Go! The following snack ideas are easy to pack and bring to school! Nowadays fast food and processed foods are so prevalent in this day and age that there is a temptation to feed our children these kinds of foods. According to the CDC (Center for Disease Control and Prevention), the percentage of children with obesity in the U.S. has tripled since the 1970s. Children with obesity have a higher likelihood of illnesses and diseases like heart disease and diabetes. These children will most likely be obese as adults. Do not let your children fall victim to child obesity. We can overcome childhood obesity by implementing and healthy food habits for our children. When you can’t think of what to feed your kids, remember my post on the 8 healthy snacks for kids on the Go.
Healthy Snack 1: Boiled Eggs
Boiled eggs are a good source of protein, Vitamin D for our bones and Vitamin A for our eyes. Place eggs in a pot and boil them for 9 minutes. Let them cool and this snack is ready to go!
Healthy Snack 2: Apples & Peanut butter
Apples can be a little boring for kids. Liven it up with some peanut butter. Peanut butter contains good fat and is a great source of protein and fiber. Remember to choose natural peanut butter versus regular peanut butter. The apples and peanut butter will provide you with the energy needed for your child.
Healthy Snack 3: Cheese
Cheese contains calcium, which is important for your children’s growth. Get some string cheese for your kids, and they will have a fun time peeling away.
Healthy Snack 4: AVOCADOS
Cut an avocado in half and spoon it out. Sprinkle some sugar to add some taste to the avocado. Your kids will enjoy the taste and benefits of eating an avocado, which include healthy skin, eyes and heart.
Healthy Snack 5: RAISINS
Raisins are low in fat and cholesterol. They will provide your kids with iron and potassium for their bodies. Raisins are sold in individual packs, which makes it a great snack on to go.
Healthy Snack 6: TOAST AND PEANUT BUTTER
Toast and peanut butter is a better alternative than toast and nutella, which is packed with sugar. Place the bread in a toaster and spread some natural peanut butter. Top it off with some bananas or strawberries.
Healthy Snack 7: CLEMENTINES
Clementines provide an essential Vitamin C source. Citrus fruits are great for the digestive system and boosts the immune system. This fruit is perfect for kids since it is easy to peel.
Healthy Snack 8: BREAD
I enjoyed eating bread as a snack when I was a kid. Plain old bread was satisfying for me. Feed your kids whole grain and whole wheat bread when they are feeling hungry. Toast the bread or heat in the microwave for a nice warm taste.
